Zoom virtual Background

On a Computer (Mac or Windows):

Before You Start:

Make sure you have the latest version of Zoom installed.

To Add a Virtual Background:

  1. Open Zoom and sign in.
  2.  Click your profile picture (top right) and select “Settings.”
  3.  In the left sidebar, click “Background & Effects” or “Virtual Background.”
  4.  You’ll see some default options. To upload your own:
    • Click the “+” icon (Add Image or Add Video).
    • Select an image/video from your computer.
  5.  Click on the background you want to use — it will automatically apply.

Note: If your computer doesn’t meet the system requirements for virtual backgrounds, you may need a green screen

On a Cell Phone (iOS or Android):

To Add a Virtual Background During a Meeting:

  1. Open the Zoom app and join a meeting.
  2.  Tap the “More” button (three dots at the bottom right).
  3.  Tap “Backgrounds & Effects” (or “Virtual Background” on some devices).
  4.  Choose a default background, or tap the “+” icon to upload your own.
  5.  Tap the background to apply it, then tap “Close.”
Note: Virtual backgrounds on mobile only work with certain phones — Zoom must be updated, and your device must support the feature.
